Open Enrollment

When classroom space and educator support are available, The Twin Falls School District offers families the flexibility of open enrollment, allowing students to attend a school outside their designated attendance zone. Our goal is to support parent choice while ensuring all schools have adequate staff and space. Policy and Procedure 3010 outlines how the Open Enrollment Process operates.

Open Enrollment Overview

As detailed in Policy and Procedure 3010, to apply for open enrollment, parents or guardians must complete an application form.

  • Eligibility: Open enrollment is available for students residing within the district as well as students from other school districts in Idaho. Acceptance and class placement are contingent on available space and educator capacity in any given school, grade level, subject area, or program

  • Application Period: Applications for the next school year may be submitted starting January 1. Applications for the current school year may be submitted on a continual basis.

  • Approval Process: Approval is contingent upon the receiving school's available space and resources (see Policy and Procedure 3010 for details related to capacity).

  • Transportation: Transportation for open-enrolled students is the responsibility of the family.

  • Annual Reapplication: Families utilizing open enrollment must notify the school of their intent to reenroll in January to maintain their placement in the desired school for a second year.

  • Revocation of a Transfer: Open enrollment status may be revoked if a student fails to meet academic, attendance, or behavioral expectations outlined by the district. Continued enrollment is also contingent upon space availability and the student adhering to district policies.

To support the Open Enrollment program, the TFSD posts data on this page indicating the available student openings at each building in each grade level, based on enrollment caps set out in TFSD Policy. These numbers are updated four times per year.
