Each year the TFSD Calendar Committee works to develop a school year calendar that will serve the needs of our district. This committee is made up of representatives from all district schools. They meet numerous times throughout the year and often utilize surveys to gauge support for different options. The committee must ensure that the calendar provides enough school days so that each grade level meets or exceeds the minimum requirements of “seat time” set by the State.
In recent years the school year has started in mid-August, which allows the semester to end before Christmas Break. A survey of parents, staff, and high school students revealed a slight majority desire to keep the current calendar format. Having the semester end prior to Christmas Break allows for students who take dual credit classes to have all of their classes end at the same time.
