Over the next two weeks, you'll see posts from the TFSD regarding the Supplemental Levy. We hope these posts provide information so that all community members can make an informed decision on election day.
How will this levy, if approved, affect my taxes?
There are many variables that can affect taxes. However, the estimated average annual cost to the taxpayer on the proposed levy is a tax of $91 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value, per year, based on current conditions. The proposed levy replaces an existing levy that expires on June 30, 2025 and that currently costs $72 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value. Therefore, if the proposed levy is approved, the tax per $100,000 of taxable assessed value is expected to increase by $19 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value. To put it in perspective, the estimated tax impact of the proposed levy equates to $7.58 per month for every $100,000 of taxable property value (after homeowners exemption). This would be an increase of $1.58 per month per $100,000 of taxable value from the current levy rate. Other variables that might influence your tax payment include your property’s valuation and the overall tax base in our community.

Congratulations Tammie Vance, October Classified Employee of the Month! Tammie is a Library Tech at Sawtooth Elementary.
Tammie is from Filer Idaho and became a Library Tech to help children succeed in reading. It’s no surprise that she draws inspiration from watching children have that “ah ha” moment with a good book. She enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with her kids and grandkids. The word that best describes her is faithful and she would like to be remembered as someone who cared about her students. Her best day on the job was when everyone came back to school after Covid and she was able to see all the students again. She loves roller coasters and would love to someday travel to South Korea with her youngest daughter to see a K-Pop concert.
Principal Note:
Tammie has cultivated a love of reading that is noted not just by students, but also parents. She goes above and beyond writing grants to ensure that our students have access to quality books and materials. She regularly reads aloud to all grades, something that should not be lost. The Sawtooth community is so lucky to have such a dedicated librarian to share her passion for literature.

Why does the TFSD need a supplemental levy?
The Twin Falls School District has been utilizing a supplemental levy for 12 years. Originally the district pursued the levy during the Great Recession to help keep district programs whole as state funding decreased. State funding has increased to pre-recession levels but increased costs continue to put pressure on the District to maintain programs solely on state funding. The levy does not supplement but rather is part of the operational budget to continue to offer the current level of programming and support for students. This includes:
safe and secure school facilities with school staff members directly responsible for ensuring students are safe;
ideal class sizes where teachers can teach effectively and all students are provided the attention and support they need;
engaging activities for students with a wide variety of interests that do not require upfront payment for students to be able to participate;
sufficient numbers of staff members focused on supporting all aspects of the school operations so that teachers can focus on teaching.
The estimated average annual cost to the taxpayer on the proposed levy is a tax of $91 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value, per year, based on current conditions. Felicitations Amber Sklavos, Classified Employee of the Month for October! Amber is an Attendance Secretary at Robert Stuart Middle School.
The best word that describes Amber is compassionate, she would like to be remembered as an honest and caring person. One of her pet peeves is dishonesty. She is originally from Rupert Idaho, and she draws her inspiration from her kids and husband. She is very family oriented and her favorite hobby is to travel and see new places with her family. A bucket list item she has is to go to Norway or Alaska and see the Northern Lights. She chose her career because she wanted to be on the same schedule as her kids, and have summers and breaks off with them. Her best day on the job is any day that she is able to make a connection with a student and they leave the office feeling heard and better about their situation. Something interesting that people don’t know about Amber is she has never had a sense of smell.
Principal Note:
Amber is always eager to help and a key member of the office staff. She maintains a smile even when I suspect that her to-do list is overwhelming. She is patient and kind with everyone who comes into the office. We are so glad that Amber has become a member of our RSMS family!

✨This dedicated student at CRHS truly loves being involved in hoisting the flag on the track! He takes his role very seriously, showcasing pride and respect. 🙌❤️
