📣 Perrine Family Clubs Update
Due to a busy few weeks at Perrine, we have decided to cancel our March Family Clubs night. With our wonderful Edward Tulane Family Night recently behind us and Parent-Teacher Conferences coming up next week, we want to be mindful of families’ schedules.
Our final Perrine Family Clubs night of the year will be April 23rd, and we can’t wait to see everyone there for one last evening of fun and connection! 💜

We want to give a big thank you to Mrs. Lusk, our incredible PE teacher, for helping make recess more fun and safe for our Perrine Panthers!
Through Playworks games and others, Mrs. Lusk teaches students skills they can use during recess so everyone can play together, stay active, and solve problems the right way. Recently, students in grades 3–5 have been learning fun basketball games like Knockout and Around the World.

Our students had an exciting day connecting history, science, and math all in one lesson! First, they learned how the railroad helped shape Idaho’s history. Then we shifted to science to explore forces and motion by building our own model trains.
Students could only use the supplies provided, so they had to think creatively! We tested how far each train traveled, measured the distance, and discussed why some designs worked better than others. Then students problem-solved, made improvements, and tried again. Finally, we used math to round our measurements to the nearest tenth.
As we were lining up to go outside, one student said:
"I always wondered why I had to know this stuff and when I would ever use it… so I’m glad I know now!"

Today our amazing 4th graders took spelling to the next level — by using their BODIES to spell their words! In small groups, students worked together to twist, stretch, bend, and problem-solve their way through each word. Talk about teamwork and creativity!
Not only were they practicing spelling patterns, but they were also:

📚 One District, One Book – Chapters 5–7
Our journey with The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane continues! In these chapters, Edward travels on the Queen Mary, is lost at sea for a long time, and is finally rescued by a fisherman. These experiences begin to change him in important ways.
As you read together, try some of these family discussion questions:
💭 About Edward’s changing character
• How does Edward feel when he is first on the ship compared to when he is in the ocean alone?
• What do you think Edward is learning while he is at the bottom of the sea?
• Do you notice any new thoughts or feelings that Edward has that he didn’t have earlier in the story?
• Why might difficult experiences help someone grow or change?
• How does it feel to see a character who was once so stuck-up become completely helpless? Do you feel sorry for him? Why or why not?
