Department description

Building Construction Level I

2 – CRHS/TFHS – 10/11/12
E – DC (CSI: CABW 102)

This is the beginning level course of the Residential carpentry/building construction program. Residential carpentry/building construction is a program designed to prepare students with skills to layout, fabricate, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures, using hand and power tools. The program includes instruction in common systems of framing, construction materials, estimating, and blueprint reading. The course also includes training in applied communications, and employability skills including leadership, human relations, and safe efficient work practices. A course designed to introduce students to basic residential carpentry and building construction.

Building Construction Level II

2 – CRHS/TFHS – 10/11/12

Teacher approval

This is the second course in a three-course program. A course designed to provide students with opportunities to apply the concepts and skills learned in Level I. This application-based course will focus on the knowledge and skills necessary to build and repair small structures. This course will also focus on interior and exterior finish, concrete and masonry. This course will also focus on soft skills to prepare students for jobs in the construction industry.

CAPSTONE: Building Construction Level III

4 – CRHS/TFHS – 11/12

Pass Building Construction I/II & Teacher approval

This is the third course in a three-course program. A course designed to provide students with team work, critical thinking, problem solving, diagnostics, and repairing/building to industry standards. Emphasis of work site skills is expected at this level with the majority of the students participating in off campus work experiences. Students will earn their OSHA 10 certification along with CPR/First AID.
